A Report on Family Adoption Program Held in KMCH Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu
National conference on Family Adoption Programme, FAP and Community Oriented Medical Education (COME) initiatives in India was organised on 6th to 7th December, 2024 by KMCH Institute of Health Sciences and Research, Coimbatore by Department of Community medicine in collaboration with IAPSM Tamil N?du Branch.
The conference aimed to establish a platform for experience sharing on various aspects of Family Adoption Program to evolve a compendium of good practises challenges faced with FAP implementation and adding value to community practice (CoP) through Community Oriented Medical Education (COME) and offering continuous guidance in developing and implementing Community Oriented Medical Education modules in India.
The conference which was preceded by a Preconference Workshop on the role of “PRA tools in FAP” as a part of COHERE 24, was attended by faculties of Community Medicine from different Medical Colleges of India along with the health administrators and senior staff of state and national level. The conference also offered opportunity to share the experience of different Medical Colleges of India through oral, poster and video presentations.
Among the prominent faculties and dignitaries conference was attended and addressed by Dr Aruna V. Vanikar, former president UGMED,National Medical Commission and the brain behind rolling out of FAP in Medical Colleges of India, along with Dr Annarao Kulkarni, the National President of IAPSM, who pioneered making FAP more sensitive to local needs, more meaningful to learners and more beneficial to the local people.
In order to represent Nalbari medical College on national platform and to share the experience on FAP, a team from Department of Community Medicine comprising Prof (Dr) Debadeep Kalita and Dr Ashok Jyoti Deka, Associate Professor participated in the conference and preconference workshop on “Role of PRA tools of FAP” on 6th and 7th December, 2024.
Prof (Dr) Debadeep Kalita and Dr Ashok Jyoti Deka presented an oral paper on “Family Adoption Program : Learning from a Newly Established Rural Medical College of North East India”, where they shared the experience on FAP conducted by Nalbari Medical College on national platform.
A video prepared by Phase II to students of Nalbari Medical Colleges was also displayed at the conference venue.
The Department of Community Medicine expresses sincere gratitude to Prof (Dr) Babul Kumar Bezbaruah, the Principal cum Chief Superintendent of Nalbari Medical College for motivating and allowing the Community Medicine team to attend the conference.
