The Department of General Surgery was started with the leadership of Dr. R. C Brahma belonging to the STP category. Now only few of the teachers co-working with him are still in the NMC. Once Professor Brahma decided to leave the college and opted to join the coveted position of the Academic Registrar in the SSUHS, Prof. Narendra Nath Ganguly MS,PhD, a candidate belonging to General category, opted to shift from the JMC to the NMC and joined the college in December 2023. The department has strong and capable teachers well trained to teach advanced GI , Oncosurgical , advanced Minimally invasive procedures including liver transplantation if such facilities be made available. As teachers, all seniors are trained in teaching as well as research methodology. Publications and presentations continue relentlessly. Coming days the department is poised for a great teaching journey and sure to make head turn with quality teaching in ethical surgery in the country.
